Phuket FantaSea or Carnival Magic? Best Show (2026)

Phuket FantaSea is the choice for a big cultural stage show about Thai legends; Carnival Magic is the choice for a colourful parade and a huge light park that children love. Both are in Kamala, both are evening-only, and they open on different days of the week. Here is how they compare, written by our team in Patong and Bang Tao.

What is Phuket FantaSea?

Phuket FantaSea is a cultural theme park in Kamala whose highlight is a large theatre show called Fantasy of a Kingdom. The show mixes Thai mythology, acrobatics, pyrotechnics, special effects and animal acts on a very big stage.

Before the show, you walk through a festival village with shops, street games, small performances and Thai-style architecture. Dinner is served at the Golden Kinnaree, a very large buffet restaurant inside the park.

  • Best for: travellers who want a "classic Phuket" evening with Thai culture and a polished stage production.
  • Show length: around 60 to 70 minutes.
  • Atmosphere: theatrical, grand, traditional.

What is Carnival Magic?

Carnival Magic is an evening light and carnival park, also in Kamala, right next to FantaSea. Its main event is an indoor parade, the River Carnival Parade, with dozens of floats and hundreds of performers, followed by a walk through the Kingdom of Lights, a huge area of illuminated LED installations.

The entrance zone is a fun fair with games, shops and live performances, and the Bird of Paradise buffet serves a wide choice of Thai and international dishes, with vegetarian and halal options.

  • Best for: families with children, couples and anyone who loves photos and light shows.
  • Parade length: about 50 minutes.
  • Atmosphere: festive, colourful, playful.

FantaSea vs Carnival Magic: what is the difference?

The main difference is the style: FantaSea is a seated theatre show built around Thai legends, while Carnival Magic is a parade plus a walk-through light park. Here is a side-by-side summary, based on information published at the time of writing (2026).

Which days are FantaSea and Carnival Magic open?

At the time of writing (2026), Phuket FantaSea opens on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, and Carnival Magic on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Neither park is listed as open on Thursday.

This schedule has changed several times over the years, and extra dates are sometimes added in high season or on holidays. Check before you go: our team confirms the date with you on WhatsApp when you book.

Staying a week? The two parks never open on the same night, so it is easy to do both: for example FantaSea on Tuesday and Carnival Magic on Wednesday.

How long does the evening last?

Plan about 4 hours on site without dinner and 5 to 6 hours with the buffet and a hotel transfer. A typical evening at either park looks like this:

  1. 17:30–18:30: arrival, walk around the village or fun fair.
  2. 18:00–20:30: buffet dinner, if your ticket includes it.
  3. 20:30–20:45: theatre or River Palace gates open.
  4. 21:00: main show or parade.
  5. After 22:00: Kingdom of Lights at Carnival Magic, or return to the hotel.

On busy nights an earlier performance can be added, so always follow the time printed on your ticket.

Is the buffet dinner worth it?

Yes, if you want an easy all-in-one evening: both parks have very large buffets with Thai and international food, and you eat on site without looking for a restaurant. If you prefer a quieter dinner, you can book the show only and eat in Kamala before arriving.

Buffet and seating options change by package, so check what is included on our Phuket FantaSea page and our Carnival Magic page before booking.

How do you get there?

Both parks are in Kamala, on the west coast, roughly 15 to 20 minutes by car from Patong and about the same from Bang Tao, depending on traffic. You can come by taxi or ride-hailing app, or choose a ticket with a shared hotel transfer when it is offered.

The return happens late, after the show, so a transfer saves you from looking for a taxi at the exit. Transfer availability depends on your hotel area: the excursion pages show the options.

What are the rules? Cameras, dress code, what to bring

The key rule is that phones and cameras are not allowed inside the FantaSea theatre or the Carnival Magic River Palace. You leave them at a check booth or locker before the show; photos are fine in the rest of both parks.

  • Dress code: no formal dress code; light clothes and comfortable shoes, as you walk a lot outdoors.
  • Bring: a light layer (theatres are air-conditioned), mosquito repellent, some cash for shops and games.
  • Arrive early: at least 30 minutes before the show, longer if you have dinner.
  • Accessibility: ask us in advance if you travel with a wheelchair or reduced mobility.

Are FantaSea and Carnival Magic good for kids?

Yes, both are family evenings, and children under 100 cm enter free at both parks at the time of writing. Carnival Magic is usually the favourite of younger children, thanks to the fun fair, the floats and the lights.

The only drawback for small children is the late finish, around 22:00 or later. A nap in the afternoon helps a lot. For more family ideas, read our guide to Phuket with kids.

Which show should you choose?

Choose by the kind of evening you want, and by the day of the week you are free.

  • First trip to Thailand, culture lovers: Phuket FantaSea.
  • Families with young children: Carnival Magic.
  • Couples and photo lovers: Carnival Magic, for the Kingdom of Lights.
  • Groups and seniors: FantaSea, for a seated show with a classic format.
  • Long stay or second visit: do both, on two different nights.

Can you combine the show with a beach day?

Yes, it is the easiest combination: spend the afternoon on Kamala Beach, then walk or drive a few minutes to the park around 17:30. Coming from Patong, Surin or Bang Tao, you can also enjoy your own beach and leave around 17:00.

Avoid a long boat trip on the same day with children: early pick-up plus a late show makes a very long day. Keep the show for a relaxed beach day.
